JCCC5 T-Shirt Swap & Charity Donation to Covenant House FL

edited January 2015 in JoCo Cruise
I'm posting this here, for those who are not in the the FB Group for JCCC5.  If you are on Facebook, please join the FB group so that we can get a general headcount on participation.  This lets us advise the charity so they can arrange proper pickup transport and the hotel can allot storage space.

For those not on Facebook, here are the details.  I will post updates here anytime I update the FB Group.
Please join the discussion if you will be participating.

****DETAILS****
We all have a fun t-shirt or hoodie that has gotten
too small/too big, right? And maybe it's hard to get rid of because you love it. It’s still in great condition, but you really can't wear it anymore; it’s just too big/small...
Bring it with you to JCCC5 this year for a Friday Night t-shirt swap and charity donation.

Luckily, we all need a little space in our luggage for the awesome items we acquire on vacation, so your t-shirts can travel down to the hotel, and then vacate your bag before you board the ship!

Here is the plan so far (check back for updates)

Where: Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina
(one of the JoCoTels)
When: 1/30/15 6pm-11pm or later
On Friday evening, we all bring of our t-shirts down to the JCCC event room on the main level, donate one item to the charity, followed by a trade of shirts (between nerds who will actually enjoy the nerdy references on them), followed then by a charitable donation of the remaining shirts to Covenant House, supporting homeless teens in greater Broward county.

How it works:

A donation of one (or more) adult/teen tshirt or junior/teen sized clothing item is required to participate. After the first item(s), you can then trade 1-1 for the shirts that are available.
Example: if you bring three t-shirts, one will be placed in the donation box, and you can then take two shirts from the trade table. All remaining t-shirts will also be donated.

You will be given a ticket for each item beyond the initial donation t-shirt that you can trade in for t-shirts throughout the evening, as more stock comes through the door; the options will be ever changing.

Clothing Condition Guidelines: Clothing should be in good condition, with no holes or stains, intact seams, and little/no hem fraying.

If you don’t want to participate in the shirt-swap, but would like to donate clothing to the charity, we are glad to take additional items.

Here is some information about the local Ft Lauderdale charity that this event will help support:

Every day, Covenant House Florida reaches over 200 kids in the Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando areas through our street outreach programs, crisis shelters, and transitional housing programs, making Covenant House Florida one of the state's largest private agencies providing services to runaway and homeless youth. Many families are in distress, and too often when that occurs, teenagers become castoffs with unfinished education and few job or life skills. All too many of them are experiencing life changes like unexpected pregnancy, or have become dependent on drugs or alcohol. They need help and Covenant House is here to guide them to the resources that they need.
Youth Served Annually: 4,417

Programs & Services: Crisis Center, Street Outreach, Shelter Care, Counseling and Case management, Physical Health Services, Mental Health Services, Family Reunification, Substance Abuse Intervention, Pregnancy Prevention and Teen Parent Education, GED Programs, Job Readiness

Come donate to help a worthy cause, and get a previously-loved t-shirt or two!
